Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit
Homeowners can get up to 30% back in tax credits when they make energy-efficient upgrades such as adding insulation, replacing windows, or installing heat pumps or solar panels. This can be combined with other programs, such as the $500 Charlottesville Gas rebate on attic insulation. Contact us to find out more.
Eligibility requirements:
- You must own the home, and it must be your primary residence (some upgrades are allowed for second homes, too).
- The products need to be energy efficient—look for ENERGY STAR labels or check with your contractor. Hold on to all your paperwork (like receipts and product info) so you’re ready when it’s time to file taxes.
- The upgrades must be installed in the same year you claim the credit. Use IRS Form 5695 when you do your taxes to get up to 30% back on qualified costs.
- Hire a contractor or do it yourself—just make sure the products meet ENERGY STAR or IRS energy-saving standards
